When A Dude Meets A Beauty

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work:  If one falls down, his friend can help him up.  But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!  Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.  But how can one keep warm alone?  Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.  A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

This is our story......

Vincent and Joanne's first picture at Mid Valley Starbucks

How it all started
Vincent and Joanne met in 2006 through an online social network; “Friendster” where Vincent requested Joanne to add him as a friend.  You see, social networks are for communities of people who share interests and activities or who are interested in exploring the interests and activities of others (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_networking).

Joanne didn’t approve Vincent’s request immediately, she waited for a few days and when she approved his request, she also added him to her msn messenger list.  Msn messenger is a freeware instant messaging where people can communicate with each other online in real time (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSN_Messenger).  And the rest was history.

“Do forgive us for being long winded, we are explaining in much detail for the benefit of those who are not so familiar with the internet so bear with us, kay.”

So, what happened next?
They started chatting online; they talked about their likes and dislikes, just getting to know each other.  Though they never met face to face, they knew how the other looked like through the photos they exchanged (some sort of a modern pen-pal).  Before they knew it, weeks passed after which they lost touch for a few months.

Did they get back in touch?
Of course they did, if not they won’t be tying the knot, duh…

On 23rd Dec 06, they got back in touch and agreed perhaps they should meet.  Their first date took place on 24th Dec 06; being the gentleman he is, Vincent drove from Cheras to Klang (it is about 45 minutes drive) to pick Joanne up.  They had lunch at an Italian Restaurant, at Bukit Raja Klang.

After lunch, as petrol was still cheap at that time, they drove around Klang town and when they ran out of ideas on where else to go; Vincent suggested driving down to Kuala Lumpur.  He showed her where he lived (she met his parents on their first date ^_^) and charmed her with his talent in singing.  After his stunning performance, they drove around KL area and ended up at KL Tower.  Vincent sent Joanne home, and since he has not attended service in a Catholic Church before, he told Joanne he would accompany her to attend Christmas Eve midnight mass at her church; she was touched by his gesture.  It was a memorable day for her.

The week that follow, on New Year’s Eve, it was Joanne’s turn to pay Vincent’s church a visit; his sister was the worship leader that morning.  It was the day she met the rest of his family.

How, when and where did the dude proposed to the beauty?
There was neither a ring nor flowers in sight, it just happened...…

It happened on 13th Jan 07; less than a month after their first date, at a Chinese Restaurant at Mid Valley over dinner, out of the blue, Vincent suggested for them to tie the knot.  That night, on their way home to Vincent’s house; they dropped by St. Francis of Assisi Church, knelt before God and prayed a prayer in agreement to submit themselves to God’s will and purpose for their life.  Joanne was speechless; she didn’t know how to react, it all happened so fast, the next thing she knew, they were taking pre-wedding pictures and was legally married to each other on 14 Feb 07.

You bet......

After the event, they took a trip to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.  The year before, Joanne made a trip and scaled Mt. Kinabalu; she fell in love with the place and Vincent suggested for them to make a trip there.  It was quite an experience and they made it to the summit of the mountain.

Coming back down to earth and fast forward to 2008

They attended the 3-day Catholic Marriage Preparation (Crash) Course conducted at Infant Jesus Convent, Cheras in March.  Well, going through and completing the course was one thing; the real tests comes when the couples are challenged in their beliefs and values through the trials and circumstances they face in their daily lives.

With all that is said and done.  God has set aside 9th Aug as the special day they will stand before Him, witnessed by family and friends where they will pledge their love and promise to honor each other for the rest of their lives.

The wedding is just the beginning of a new chapter in their earthly journey walking towards building God’s Kingdom for His glory.  May they be sensitive to God’s gentle prompting through the Holy Spirit in order to fulfill the will and purpose God has for them and that they will walk with the Lord Jesus Christ at every circumstance in their lives.
