A Plight For Stray Dogs From Pulau Ketam

posted by Joanne

It is beyond me how humans can be such cruel creatues to treat God’s creation in this manner.  There must be other ways to solve the stray population instead of having to just dump them aside for them to fend for themselves.

Marley & Me on Valentine’s Day

posted by Joanne

Ah….A Dog movie.  I have been waiting for this movie since it’s opening in US on Christmas Day.  Here in Malaysia, the movie will only be shown from 5 March.  However GSC had a Valentine’s Day Special Package where it starts with a 5 course dinner and then the screening of Marley & Me in their Gold Class Cinema.

This is a real treat as it is also our 2nd Anniversary in terms of being legally (we registered our marriage legally on 14 February 07) married, it is also the first time we watch a movie in the Gold Class Cinema.  The cinema is comfortable with only about 24 seats (12 couples) so you can image the amount of space we have between the next seat.  The seat are individual sofa where you are able to lie down and watch the movie, they also provide you with a blanket where you can keep yourself warm.  Gold Class Cinema standard is like flying first class in an airplane.  Each ticket cost RM60 on normal occassion, the Valentine’s Day Special Package cost us RM180, which includes a door gift , 5 course dinner for 2 and 2 Gold Class tickets to watch Marley & Me.  All in all, it was all worth it.

Vince & Jo at Gold Class Cinema

Thanks Vince for a romantic evening.

Just would like to include the trailer of Marley & Me which still tickles me no matter how many times I watch it.

Vince and I attended the 2008 International Ozone Day on 7 September 2008 held at National Science Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  The event is being organized by Top-Ozone Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd.  Their products are UV-Ozone Food Sterilizer and UV-Ozone Air Sterilizer.

The event was graced by many local artists and the most prominent is Zainal Abidin.  He is very supportive with anything to do with Mother Nature, his most famous song is “Hijau” which is “Green” in English.  The song is originally in Bahasa and he intends to translate it to English, Mandarin and who knows Tamil, and he is looking for translators to help him with the translation.

He almost didn’t make it for the event as he was in Spain for another event, he came immediately after touching down from Spain.  We had the priviledge to hear him perform “Hijau” live and he also performed “Kau Di Hatiku” the Bahasa version of “You’ll Be In My Heart” from the movie Tarzan.

I was thrilled that I got to take a photo with him, Vince was the cameraman as he wasn’t bothered to want to be in the picture.  So this is how the picture came to……

2008 International Ozone Day - 7 September

posted by Joanne

Last month we attended a press conference for the upcoming “2008 International Ozone Day” which will be held at the National Science Centre, Malaysia on 7 September from 8.30am to 6.00pm.  We were given a pair of recycleable chopsticks curtosy of “Lohas” where you can carry it in your pocket/handbag and so instead of using the disposable bamboo chopsticks, we are encouraged to use this recyceable chopsticks so reduce the use of disposable chopsticks and so save the trees from being chopped down.

Recycle Chopsticks by Lohas

Celebraties who supports this events are like Zainal Abidin, Suki (winner of One in a Million), etc.  One group that caught everyone’s attention was called “Stomp”, there is a group from United States as well, however this group are “Buatan Malaysia”.  Stomp consist of a band of 5 team members who make music using everyday items eg. plastic drum, plastic paint container, metal food container, metal bucket and mineral plastic bottle.

Recycle Band

The event is being organized by Top-Ozone in partnership with the Malaysia National Science Centre.  There will be activities and competitions organized for children.  It will be a day where family not only spend time together, it is also educational as adults and children can learn the benefits of recycling.

Save Mother Nature

We hope to see you there, remember……

Wall-E, Movie By Disney & Pixar

posted by Joanne

Wall.E - Disney, Pixar

If I were in US, I would have watched this movie by Disney and Pixar last month.  Unfortunately I am in this part of the world where the movie will only be released on 7 August.  Fuyoh!  Even though it is 2 days before my wedding I told Vince I want to be one of the 1st to watch the movie.

As per my previous post, we went around looking for Wall-E’s mock up so I could take a shot with him and I found him and not only him but Eve, his girlfriend as well.  They were at Sunway Pyramid!

Getting More And More Exciting

posted by Joanne

We are planning for a simple wedding……As it turns out……No matter how simple a wedding is going to be, there are still a lot of things to look into.

Today was a tiring but an exciting day for us.

We went to Hot Screen’s office in Kelana Jaya, they are the producers of “Realiti Pengantin” a reality show on RTM 1.  We have the privilege to be featured in the program through my cousin Alan who is a wedding planner.  It is a 30 minutes program which shows how the couple make preparation for their wedding to the wedding day itself.  They showed us a sample of how it will be so that we have an idea of what they are looking for.

And so we went to collect my wedding gown today, I had a fitting on Sunday and Erin (owner of Neoromantic Bridal - where I bought my gown) wanted to alter it smaller coz she said I am too slim and if I didn’t alter it, cannot really see the design of the gown.  She provided us with very good service and I am very happy with the quality of the gown.

We then went to the TOM Bridal Studio to confirm the design for our album.  We are satisfied with the outcome of our photos and design they have done for us.

How it works is that, their cameraman will follow us around when we are doing our preparation so it is unfortunate that all their cameras have been booked and so they were unable to follow us, however, we did our own footage with Vince’s camera.  They will look through it and if it is not up to their standard, we will have to re-act it out again.

Actually I hope it will be good enough so we can do our own recording because I think it feels awkward to have a camera following us around, if we do our own then I think will be more natural.  Anywho, we have to see what they say about our recording.

We will update you guys soon on how and what we are up to.

UnVeilinGlory Seminar - Cat & Dog Theology

posted by Joanne

Cat & Dog Theology

UnveilinGLORY Seminar which is based on Cat & Dog Theology, a book by Bob Sjogren was presented by Rev George Ong from Singapore.  The seminar was hosted by Canaan Church in Sri Hartamas on 5 & 6 July.

The seminar is based on a simple joke about the difference between a cat and a dog which helps you see the differences between “us living for God (Theology)” versus “God living for us (Meology)”.  It helps Christians to see that majority of what we’ve learn is not incorrect, but it is incomplete!

The speaker, Rev George Ong is a certified trainer of UnveilinGLORY Seminar.  To date, he has written 12 humour books (see below) which have been very well received by both the young and old.

Humour Books by Rev. George Ong, Vol 1 and 2.Humour Books by Rev. George Ong, Vol 3 and 4.Humour Books by Rev. George Ong, Vol 5 and 6.Humour Books by Rev. George Ong, Vol 7 and 8.Humour Books by Rev. George Ong, Vol 9 and 10.Humour Books by Rev. George Ong, Vol 11 and 12.

He sells these books to support his own ministry so if you are insterested to purchase them, you can write to him at georgeog@singnet.com.sg

My personal view

It was very interesting to know how a cat and a dog think of its owner and it illustrates clearly how we ourselves position God in our lives.  All of us are usually a mix of a cat and a dog, at different times.  The question is at most of the time, are we more cat or dog?  If we are cats, we treat God as the Almighty who are here to serve us and answer all our prayers; if we are dogs, our ultimate aim is to glorify God in all that we do and because of His blessings for us, we go out to be life-giving and bless other people.

Even though the seminar was conducted in the afternoon which is the most sleepy time of the day, Rev George was so funny it was nearly impossible to fall asleep.  We had fun listening to him as he will just slot in jokes and he does it so smoothly, it hits you without you realizing it.

We almost missed it, we picked up the flyer at Salvation 2 days before.  We are glad that the Lord called us to attend the seminar.  He will be back in Malaysia sometime next month so if you are interested to attend his seminar, drop him a mail at georgeog@singnet.com.sg

Pastor George is a funny man.

Vince & I with Rev George Ong - Even when we asked him if we can take a picture with him he said “Are you sure your camera can fit me?”  He said it with a straight face which makes it even funnier.

Lord, help us to practice “Theology” and not “Meology”.  Send your spirit upon us to keep us in check so that whatever we do, we will glorify you and not for our own glory.  Also help us recognise opportunities that come our way where we can glorify Your Holy Name, help us to be a blessing to others with the blessings you have given us.  Thank you Lord for this opportunity to learn more about your purpose for our lives.  May our lives reflect your glory.  Amen.

Johor MIRC Roadshow

posted by Joanne

Vince and I are in Johor for MIRC Roadshow representing XTrain to promote and educate the people in Johor about Internet Marketing.  We arrived yesterday and will be heading back to KL tonight.

We sat at the 2nd last seat from the back and as we were getting down from the bus when we arrived in JB, Vince spotted a note on one of the seat.  Vince said while pointing ”Jo, got money on the seat. Pick it up”.  At first I couldn’t see the note as the seat was blue in color, I was just expecting a mere RM1 or RM10 but God suprised and blessed us with a RM50 note (now you know why I couldn’t spot it at first glance).  We used the money almost immediately to buy our return ticket back to KL (God answered Vince’s prayer to provide for my travelling expenses as he can claim his expenses from XTrain).

After checking in to the hotel (we stayed in Mutiara Johor Bahru), we went out for dinner looking for the “Lok Lok” van, unfortunately he didn’t show up.  We hope to be able to locate him the next time round and perhaps go for stemboat porridge too.  While loafing around Pelangi area, we came across a uniquely decorated  ”mini minor”.  Vince took some pictures with his PDA phone.  This is how the car looks like, would be so cute if we use this as our wedding car, hehehe.

Doggy Mini Minor.

Doggy Mini Minor side view.

So, it is only less than 2 hours till our bus ride, going to zzzzz in the bus and back to the hustle and bustle of KL.  Some things are cheap here in JB, we bought some DVDs at RM5/DVD with buy 5 free 1 bundle and manage to find a shop that sells Wii games at RM5/game, how cool is that.

I hope that on our next trip to JB, we get to drop by Singapore even if just to set foot there and back so I can get my newly renewed passport stamped so not to renew my passport JUST for show.  Hope to make use of my new passport more than my previous which I only used ONCE in that 5 years of owning it (kinda sad, means I hardly travel).  Though am looking forward to trips overseas in the future with Vince.
